Apple Cake

This is a layered dessert that you cut into bars. The recipe is for a jelly roll pan but you could half it and use a smaller pan or just freeze what you don’t want to eat… or if your like me.. you just eat the whole thing!!!!

Ingredients:
CRUST:
3c. unsifted all-purpose flour
1/2c. sugar
2 sticks margarine
1 egg
2 Tbls. water

FILLING:
4-5 medium apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1/2c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

TOPPING:
1c flour
1/2 c sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
6 Tbls. margarine, softened

Directions:
Blend flour, sugar and margarine with a pastry blender (or fork if you don’t have one) until pea- sized pieces. Add water and mix into a dough. Press into the bottom and up the sides of the pan. Place sliced apples in rows on top of dough. Mix sugar and cinnamon and pour over apples. Combine topping ingredients to make a crumb topping and then sprinkle over apples. Bake at 400 for 45 min. Tastes great both warm and completely cooled.
